comprehensive list of sites I visit

it seems like a nice idea to collate a bunch of links that I frequent a lot. not everybody reads blogs on actual blog sites any more, thus may not see our sweet as links list on the left of your screen. to this end, here is a list of internet things that are pretty cool/decent/awesome


thought catalog
I am not joking when I say I have made everybody in my life read this blog (not joking, perhaps lying slightly). there are a lot of very relevant thought catalog posts about a lot of different things. it is funny and sad and true. usually posts about 8 articles on average per day. often abbreviated to TC by teagueface and myself. read.

laughing squid
this site is a collection of interesting videos or pictures, usually just over 10 per day. I have noticed that TC sometimes uses their posts (a phrase which here delicately infers 'copies') as inspiration.

internet poetry
as Stacey mentioned in a post last week, Steve Roggenbuck is doing some really cool things with poetry. internet poetry is a new initiative that looks at how things on the innernette can be poetic. in a broad sense, this site challenges the classic idea of what poetry is. I find this pretty exciting.


ponch on twitter
this is a delight. earlier this week I wasn't online for an extended amount of time and I felt a bit lonely. I realised that this was probably because there were no tweets from ponch popping up in tweetdeck every 2 seconds. it's hard to actually read them all, but their consistency is, as I tweeted (1/3/2011) "12+ hours off the innernette, nothing happens. kinda missed @ponchopeligroso's incessant tweets though. like having a friend or something." sometimes they are rancid tweets, other times they are uplifting and inspirational.

HTMLGIANT
I have been trying harder to read this blog because I feel like it will make me seem 'well informed' about interesting literature-related things. also I'm trying to force myself to absorb information. this blog is erudite. sometimes long posts about literary folk I've never heard of, other times pertinent things about e-books or simple questions like 'how much of your personal library have you read more than once' which is a question that has concerned me for a while. does it make me less legitimate if I keep buying books and not reading them? what's wrong with me???

Whip Up

This is the best craft blog I've come across by far. It's not weighed down with lots of "hurrahs" and "lovely" and cheesy stuff like that, but helpful links, tips and ideas about craft projects. Seriously cool shit like this list of ultimate geek knit and crochet.

Rhys Rodgers

Rhys is a poet and a friend of mine. I think he is also a very special person. He threw a party and filled the bath with beanbag beans. When he performs his poetry it is quite honestly one of the most mesmerising and awesome things of all time. His blog is filled with adorable little insights into his life.

Mrs Robertson Presents

This is a food blog written by my good friend and former colleague, Mrs Robertson. She chooses a vegetable (usually one that I wouldn't think to cook with) and makes something very very delicious. I have eaten her food before and can testify to its deliciousness. I find her blog well written and entertaining, because she includes anecdotes about soundtracks whilst cooking and miscellaneous things that happen in the Robertson household.

I Op Therefore I am

This is a blog about op shops in Melbourne. Anybody can join and write about their own op shop finds. It's not always interesting or well written and I guess it's sometimes annoying seeing other people find cool things, but I really like reading about the different op shops in Melbourne.

Virgule

I have to rather shamelessly plug the Voiceworks blog. Sometimes I post writing related things there. When I say 'sometimes' I mean I have done it once, but will totally do it again in the near future.

the bravery

writing anything on this computer screen seems absolutely ridiculous. this massive platform glares at me and makes anything I write seem so absurd and pretentious. possibly a subconscious parallel of how pretentious I feel I am (sometimes).

I sent away my notebook to a friend yesterday and I miss it. I did it very carelessly, scurrying to get to the post office before four o'clock, without considering how much I was letting go. I need to find a replacement: one that will fit in my bag and just come around with me everywhere.

I have been lazily contemplating my reasons for getting blogger and also considering what I intend to include in it. So far, I have no idea and I kinda want to delete this shit cause I wholeheartedly prefer livejournal.

Blogger seems to encourage publicity and linkage rather than focus on the content of actual blogs. Lacking substance, the content of blogs seem to be competitive, less for personal enjoyment and expression (IN SOME CASES). A bit of a blog realm McDonalds, if you will.
